Favorite Fall Haircolor Formulas from Educator Liz Cook

It’s that time of year again, the leaves start changing colors and so do the clients! This is our educator Liz Cook’s  (@coloredbyLiz) favorite time of year. Her trademark chocolate cake hair color technique is in high demand when the temperature’s start to dip and clients start trading in their summer blondes for something a bit cozier.

We’ve asked Liz to share the formulas behind some of her favorite fall hair color looks from this year, using milk_shake the GLOSS. The gloss is a low pH, ammonia-free liquid demi-permanent color that leaves hair in better condition than before it was colored. It’s the perfect way to custom-craft a unique color for your clients.

The Copper Lob

The Copper LobCopper is the perfect transition color for former beach blondes. Chock full of warmth, copper brings the feeling of fall without automatically “going dark.” This look weaves together copper, red and chocolate shades to create a lived-in look with a  shadow root. Liz recommends using the Gloss to recreate this multi-tonal autumn staple:

Roots: 5.81

Mid-lengths: 6.4 / 7.8

Ends: 9.43 / 8N / 9.3

Big and Bold Fall Haircolor

Big & BoldFor the client who wants to make a statement with their fall transition. This fierce placement dances just on the right side of the line of daring. This look combines classic chocolate, with a bold punch of blonde. Liz custom crafted this color for her long-time client and recommends using the following formula to recreate the look:

Roots: 4N

Mid-Lengths: 7.8 / 8N / 6.1

Ends: 9.03 / 9.08

The Perfect Chocolate Brunette

The Perfect Chocolate BrunetteDark brown hair for fall is a rite of passage, a tradition for most clients that seems to mark the changing of the season. Many clients are sad to part with their summer blonde but are looking forward to the reduced maintenance that comes with taking their look down a few shades. Enter this dark-at-the-root, light on the bottom brunette. Not quite an ombre, this super blended look is perfect for clients who are looking to keep a little extra brightness around their face. This is also a great recommendation for clients looking to increase their time between visits a little. A slight change in color may keep them in the chair in the long run.
